Florida Teacher Arrested after He Texted Inappropriate Things to Two Students, Threatened to Affect Grades

Miami, FL: Authorities in Miami-Dade County have charged a teacher after months of sending two students sexually explicit and “uncomfortable” messages, during which he threatened to lower one student’s grade.

He is currently incarcerated at Miami-Dade County Jail as per Miami Herald.

Roger Alaniz, a 24-year-old educator, worked at Miami Senior High. A detective from the Miami-Dade Schools police department was informed in December that Alaniz had been communicating with two students by text and social media since October, allegedly, according to the arrest record.

The incident allegedly began when Alaniz wrote down his number on a student’s paper. Despite her repeated denials, she informed the detective that Alaniz had often asked when she planned to text him.

She added him as a contact because she felt pressed, she said. Alaniz quickly confessed, “I believe I might have a crush on you,” after the initial “ordinary” talk ended.

Because he made the student feel uneasy, he started showing up to class late and would wait for her friends to enter the classroom.

The document stated that in November, Alaniz requested a female student to be her Instagram friend, and that student accepted. In the course of their exchange, she sought Alaniz’s number while he sought her opinion on a school project.

According to the authorities, Alaniz advised her on her social issues in text messages. Alaniz inquired as to her level of sexual activity.

Along with that, Alaniz asked her to join him for a movie and a spin around town. His messages went unnoticed by the student.

Then, Alaniz threatened that her grades will suffer as a result. Even if the student managed to escape his class, Alaniz claimed, “he would find her.” This was in response to the student’s request for a change of instructor.

Two counts of violations against pupils by authority people and two counts of child abuse with no significant bodily harm were filed against Alaniz upon his detention on Thursday. Up until this past Friday, he was housed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools expressed its “deep concern” at the “concerning allegations made against the former employee, leading to his arrest” in a separate statement.

The district promptly removed Alaniz from the school after becoming aware of the suspicious activity, according to the statement. They let him go once the cops looked into it.
