Florida Man Shot Brother Dead after Heated Argument over Car in Party; Family claims Self-Defence

Orlando, FL: The man was shot and killed in Florida after going to confront his brother about not letting him borrow a four-wheeler.

The 32-year-old Samuel Rivera was shot and killed on March 25, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

He claimed self-defense when deputies interrogated his 41-year-old brother, the gunman.

A fight reportedly started at a party on Sunday, March 24, the previous day, according to investigators. The reason Rivera’s brother refused to let him use a four-wheel drive was “because Samuel (Rivera) previously battered the owner of the four-wheeler back in June 2023,” according to authorities.

According to police, Rivera informed relatives that he was still angry with his brother after the encounter and threatened to physically harm his brother and another relative.

Deputies reported that Samuel Rivera waited for his brother to arrive at the harvesting business where he worked early on Monday morning. Deputies said that upon doing so, Rivera “immediately and violently confronted” his brother and started attacking him.

The sibling allegedly hit by Rivera as his hands remained in his pockets, according to eyewitnesses.

According to the deputies, the brother retrieved a weapon from his pickup while the beating persisted. According to deputies, the altercation started because of the pistol, and while Rivera was battling for control of it, he was shot in the foot.

After that, he allegedly charged his brother again, prompting the brother to shoot him twice more, according to investigators.

After reporting that he had shot his brother, he contacted emergency services; Rivera later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

According to the data kept by the jail, the older brother has evaded arrest.

The victim was compelled to defend himself with a pistol due to the fear that Rivera, a “convicted felon, through his own actions,” instilled, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, who stated that preliminary inquiry determined this.

The cops have started an investigation to look into the matter.

Central Florida is home to Polk County, which is roughly 65 miles southwest of Orlando.
