Florida Cop Had Wild Party with 4 Teen Girls in Bartow; Arrested after Videos and Images Emerged showing the Inappropriate Acts Committed by Cop at Party

Charges were brought against a Bartow police officer who was said to have had an inappropriate relationship with four teen girls on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old Markanthony Fernandez is facing sexual contact allegations involving four minors, including two ladies aged 18 and two girls aged 17 and 16.

He allegedly took at least one video of one of the minors engaging in a sexual act at Fernandez’s supervision on one of the 18-year-olds wearing a Bartow police jacket, and he was sharing these films on Snapchat while at work. The girls were in various degrees of undress, according to the detectives.

At gatherings, he allegedly gave the victims booze and marijuana gummies and engaged in other sexual actions with them, according to investigators. The 16-year-old was allegedly restrained by Fernandez after he entered her bedroom at his Lake Wales residence and started to touch and strangle her.

The Bartow Police Department turned over the investigation to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office after deciding it did not fall within their purview.

According to Sheriff Grady Judd, Fernandez was introduced to the girls after meeting one of them on social media.

Police have placed Fernandez on paid administrative leave while they investigate his detention.

“It’s very disappointing,” remarked Stephen Walker, Deputy Chief of Police for the Bartow Police Department. “We conduct thorough background checks and psychological screenings to ensure that we are selecting qualified candidates. However, it is important to acknowledge that these processes are not foolproof and that individuals can undergo changes.”

In September 2020, Fernandez was initially employed by the Bartow Police Department. In October 2021, he started working for the sheriff’s office; in December 2022, he went back to the police force.

“This guy is a bad guy,” Sheriff Grady Judd said. “He fooled his way into the system, and then he acted like a fool and he got arrested, and I’m happy about that. He was stupid enough to do it, then he was really stupid to video, then he was really stupid to show it to his colleagues at work who said, ‘timeout.’ They’re professionals. So you play stupid, stupid, stupid games, you win stupid, stupid, stupid prizes.”

The Polk County Jail was the site of Fernandez’s booking on charges including: two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, use of a juvenile in a sexual performance, battery by strangulation, illegal use of a two-way communication device, four counts of providing alcoholic beverages to a person under 21 years of age, and promotion of a juvenile in a sexual performance.
