FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for northern Lancaster County overnight

TUESDAY: Warm and humid, with scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening, particularly south and east of Harrisburg. High 86.

***11:30pm UPDATE: A Flash Flood Emergency was declared for northern Lancaster County overnight. Some locations received 3 to 5 inches of rain early Monday evening, resulting in flash floods. Additional heavy rain will move across this area overnight, potentially resulting in another 1 to 3 inches of rain. Flooding will happen tonight, including flooded roadways. Please be cautious when going overnight and Tuesday early. ***

Torrential downpours hit sections of the Midstate earlier this evening. Flash flood warnings were issued for the Carlisle area, as well as much of Lebanon and northern Lancaster. The Carlisle area had flooded roads and power outages, with rain quantities exceeding 2 inches in a short period of time. Lebanon and Lancaster counties are reporting 3-4 inches of rain. Storms will continue to move east this evening, with further showers and storms possible later in the evening and early tonight. Very humid conditions persisted overnight, with temperatures remaining in the 70s.

Tomorrow may bring another risk of afternoon and evening storms as the front remains unstable. Storms tomorrow may bring a higher risk of isolated destructive wind gusts. Heavy rain is also a threat due to the high dewpoints. Storms are more likely to develop south and east of Harrisburg on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Wednesday and Thursday will be dry and considerably more seasonable, with temperatures in the 80s. There will be a considerable drop in humidity on Friday, which is ideal for Fourth of July plans! The weekend is quiet, but becoming hotter, with another potential heat wave starting Sunday and lasting until next week.
