Firefighters Douse Blaze At Family Apartments in Jersey City; Many Injured
Jersey City, NJ: A fire that broke out in the basement of a multi-family building in Jersey City on Thursday caused the evacuation of over a dozen residents and caused damage to the first, second, and roof levels.
According to city spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, when firemen from Jersey City arrived at 77 Nelson Avenue, next to North Street, in the Heights, they discovered that the fire had already spread to the first and second stories. The roof of a nearby structure sustained damage as a result of the fire.
The 14 occupants of 77 Nelson, which suffered extensive fire and structural damage to the entire building, received assistance from the American Red Cross. Additionally, a cat was securely taken out of the building and given back to its owner.
Neither firefighters nor residents reported any injuries.
