Fentanyl Busted at Storage Facility in Tennessee; Firearms and Narcotics Confiscated after Search Warrant
Hamilton County- A local storage unit yielded 11.5 pounds (5.25 kilograms) of Fentanyl when a search warrant was served there.
The duffel bag containing the drugs was discovered on Monday by the Narcotics & Special Investigations Unit of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The bag was labeled “Drug Money.”
Dissolved fentanyl was prepared for distribution on the street. An HCSO press release states that digital scales and a firearm were among the other items confiscated alongside the drugs.
The drugs have a rough market worth of $630,000 as per a local news outlet.
Sheriff Austin Garrett said in the news release “A dealer may find it amusing to keep drugs in a bag labeled ‘Drug Money,’ but there’s nothing funny about distributing poison like fentanyl and methamphetamine in our community. These drugs are indiscriminately killing our citizens. Let this drug seizure serve as a clear message from me, if you sell this poison in our community, the next knock on your door might be from my Narcotics Unit or SWAT Team executing a search warrant or an arrest warrant. Remember, the Sheriff’s Office still makes house calls.”
The number of people dying from drug overdoses has risen to unprecedented levels, indicating that drug usage has become a national epidemic in the US. Over 100,000 people died from drug overdoses in 2022, according to the CDC, highlighting how serious the problem is.
This concerning trend is mostly caused by the opioid pandemic, which is bolstered by both legal and illegal opioids such as heroin and fentanyl. For instance, the danger of deadly overdoses has been substantially elevated nationwide due to the use of Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid.
