Fatal Love Triangle: Michigan Husband Sentenced for Killing Wife During Lover’s Confrontation
A Michigan husband was given a prison term for the murder of his wife. She was shot and killed during a gunfight at her lover’s house, where the husband had gone to ask him to end their relationship.
On Wednesday, 48-year-old Matthew Louis Mollicone learned that his 49-year-old wife, Kimberly Ann Mollicone, had passed away. Officials from the prosecution revealed in a press statement that he will serve 86–15 years for voluntary manslaughter, 12–40 years for assault with intent to murder, and two years to run concurrently for three charges of felony firearm. According to Law&Crime, the murder took place at Daniele Giannone’s house at 9:30 p.m. on July 12, 2022, while Matthew Mollicone and his wife were on their way.
The couple found Giannone outside, smoking a BBQ, when they arrived at the house in Ray Township, in the 62000 block of North Avenue, approximately 45 miles north of Detroit. A confrontation turned violent very fast. The two men exchanged gunshots. One of Giannone’s legs took a blow. He took cover in his house, where he obtained a backup weapon.
Matthew and Kimberly Morricone started to flee to their car as they started to pull out of the driveway when gunshots broke out between them. Kimberly was hit in the neck and died, according to the authorities.
According to authorities, the whole thing didn’t even last two minutes. A number of Giannone’s relatives were “trapped inside the home out of fear” when the gunfire broke out. More than 30 shot casings were found from three weapons by the investigators.
The gunfight was going on when Matthew Mollicone dialed 911 as well. The man “came out of his house and shot my wife,” he tells the dispatcher in the recorded audio.
In her obituary, Kimberly Mollicone spoke warmly of her mother.
Kimberly Mollicone’s husband believed that she and Giannone had recently resumed their affair, and the details of their years-long romance were exposed in court by the Oakland Press. Despite prosecutors claiming that Mollicone put his wife in risk, Mollicone’s legal team argued that Giannone should be charged with murder for firing the fatal shot, according to the outlet.
