Family Says Alcohol Addiction Led to Tragic Death of Infant as Greensboro Mother Faces Court

Greensboro, NC – A mother appeared in court on Monday following her child’s death.

Nasheata Lee is accused of sleeping on top of her 2-month-old newborn girl, who died as a result.

FOX8 learnt in court that all of this was due to an alleged alcohol addiction. When detectives arrived, they smelt alcohol on Lee and determined that she has a drinking problem.

Two members of her family attended court. They informed FOX8 that they don’t want to bond her out because the drinking must stop, and if she is locked up, she cannot drink.

Lee’s boyfriend made a frightened 911 call shortly after midnight on Sunday. He discovered the infant below Lee, with blood on the mattress.

He told cops the pair had a fight on Saturday. He left to cool down. When he returned home, he discovered the 2-month-old dead below her mother.

FOX8 learnt in court that a 2-year-old was present at the time of the event, and Lee has other children who are not in her custody.

Lee is charged with one count of negligent child abuse resulting in serious damage, but there may be additional or increased counts in the future.

The judge decided to increase the bond from $10,000 to a $25,000 secured bond.

Detectives are still awaiting an official autopsy to determine the cause of death for the baby. If convicted, Lee faces up to seven years in prison.

She is set to return to court in June.
