Ex-Jacksboro Officer Charged With Vandalism For Attacking Vice Mayor’s House With Sausage Cans
An ex-Jacksboro police officer is being charged with vandalism after it is said that he threw Vienna sausage cans at the Vice Mayor’s house earlier this month.
In an affidavit from the Campbell County General Sessions Court, it is said that the Vice Mayor of Jacksboro told a deputy sheriff that he was in bed on July 11 at 11 p.m. when he heard “several loud thumps” on the outside of his house. In the affidavit, the officer wrote that he saw two broken windows facing the road and Vienna sausage cans that had been run over in the driveway.
The deputy found that one of the cans of sausages was a brand that was only sold at Walmart while the probe was going on. After that, the officer went to a nearby Walmart.
The cashier at Walmart told the officer that she had thrown away a ticket from the night before when she got there. The cashier and customer service were not able to help the deputy at first, but the affidavit said that Walmart later called him and gave him the receipt and camera video.
Joseph Weaver was seen checking out on video at 10:44 p.m. on July 11. However, he only scanned 7 of the 15 cans of Vienna sausages and a black T-shirt before leaving the store and getting into a dark-colored van. It was just minutes before the deputy wrote that he saw the same van on security video moving on a road near the Vice Mayor’s house. The deputy and the Vice Mayor’s car were then hit with sausage cans.

During the investigation, the deputy found three more people with Weaver: Jeremy Weinberg, a corrections officer from Campbell County; Mallory Campbell, a police officer from LaFollette; and a third guy.
Weinberg told the deputy that he, Weaver, Campbell, and the third guy had been drinking and eating at the Indian River Marina when Weaver got angry about what happened, which made him quit his job as a police officer in Jacksboro. Weaver is said to have said he had to stop by Walmart on the way out of the dock, but he didn’t say why.
Weinberg said that after the van pulled up to Walmart, Weaver went inside by himself. When he came back, the other three people asked Weaver why he bought so many Vienna sausage cans, and according to the statement, Weaver only said, “It was going to be funny.”
After that, Weaver is said to have driven to the Vice Mayor’s house, turned off the van’s lights, and stopped on the side of the road. The report says that Weaver told the others to follow him, and he went to the house with the Vienna sausage cans. Weinberg and the other man followed him, and Campbell waited in the car. Weinberg then said he saw Weaver throw the first can of sausages at the house. He told them he didn’t want to be a part of the fight and left in the van. Weinberg also told the deputy that he didn’t see the other man throw anything before he left.
The deputy wrote that he talked to Weaver and that Weaver took full blame for what happened. This is what the arrest order says: Weaver is charged with theft under $1,000 and vandalism over $2,500.

Chief Deputy Cody Chapman of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office said that Weinberg was fired on July 15 for breaking company policy. Stan Foust, the administrator of LaFollette City, also stated that Campbell, who worked as a full-time police officer, quit on July 13. If she hadn’t, she would have been suspended while the investigation went on.
“This is not okay with the City of LaFollette, whether they are working or not,” Foust said.
