Ex-Boyfriend and Co-worker Shot Woman Dead and Her Roommate in Texas; Dumped Partial Dismembered Body Parts In Dumpsters and Forest

A 28-year-old man in Texas has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a woman he was fixated on and her roommate. He fatally shot both victims, ending their lives tragically.

A sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole has been ordered for Rosendo Jesus Montoya by Atascosa County District Court Judge Russell H. Wilson. The authorities have announced this decision in relation to the slayings of Mary Heinz and her roommate Laura West, aged 33 and 43 respectively.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a residential fire in Leming, Texas early in the morning on June 29, 2023. The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, along with deputies and firefighters, swiftly arrived at the scene on Peach Street in the 100 block.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders successfully rescued an adult female victim from the burning residence. A woman, later identified as West, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

The owner of the home, West, lived with a roommate named Heinz. However, Heinz was missing from the residence, which immediately sparked a mystery.

Investigators diligently worked for the following week, conducting interviews, gathering evidence, and collecting extensive surveillance footage from the vicinity of West’s residence. After six days, authorities were able to identify Montoya as the primary suspect in the murder of West. It was discovered that Montoya had previously worked at McDonald’s with Heinz and had developed an unhealthy fixation on her.

“The suspect was working at a fast-food restaurant in Pleasanton,” Sheriff David Soward said following Montoya’s arrest. “Shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, two investigators observed the suspect come out of the restaurant, move his vehicle close to a dumpster, get out of his car, retrieve two black plastic trash bags from his car, and place them in the dumpster as he left work. About 45 minutes later, he was stopped by sheriff’s deputies and interviewed on the side of the road. At the same time, one of my investigators went into the dumpster and retrieved the two black plastic trash bags and found it contained partial human remains.”

Following his arrest, Montoya led investigators to a secluded spot along a county road where he disposed of Heinz’s body and concealed it with tall grass. Tragically, she had also lost her life due to a gunshot wound.

According to County District Attorney Audrey Louis, Montoya and Heinz had a brief relationship. However, when Heinz ended things, Montoya develops strong feelings for her.

Law and Crime was provided with a detailed account by the DA, explaining how Montoya carefully placed Heinz’s body inside a container that he had recently acquired, as part of his sinister plot to end her life. During the incident, West returned home and Montoya fatally shot her.
