Who Can Get the 2024 California Stimulus Check?
If you meet the following requirements, the California Franchise Tax Board says you are eligible for the California stimulus check in 2024:
- California’s tax return for 2023 was filed by October 15, 2023.
- For more than half of the 2023 tax year, you lived in California.
- Your adjusted gross income (AGI) in California is less than or equal to $75,000.
- A legal Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a must.
- Another taxpayer is not listing you as a dependent.
In addition, you must have gotten at least one of the California stimulus payments in 2023 in order to be eligible for the $2,600 payment in 2024. You might still be able to get a $1,200 payment in 2024 even if you haven’t gotten any payments before, based on your income and filing status.

When Will You Receive the Payment?
If you qualified for the California stimulus check in 2024, you don’t have to do anything else to get it. Using the information from your 2023 tax return, the state will send the payment immediately. There is a 45-day waiting period before you get the money, or until December 31, 2024, whichever comes first.

The way you choose to get your state tax refund or pay your state taxes for the 2023 tax year will determine how you receive the payment. The stimulus payment will be sent to your bank account if you choose direct deposit. The stimulus payment will be mailed to you if you pick a paper check.

Neither the state nor the federal government will tax the California stimulus check in 2024. It’s not something you have to report as cash on your tax returns. It’s still a good idea to write down the date and amount of the payment for future use.
