Driver Rescued after Semi Dangled off from Bridge in Louisville; Check Images of Heroic Rescue

Louisville, Kentucky: In Louisville, Kentucky, a semi-truck driver was stranded hanging over the edge of a bridge on Friday due to a vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding with the tractor-trailer, according to officials.

During a press conference on Saturday, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg disclosed fresh information regarding the events that led to the dramatic rescue on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge, linking Louisville to southern Indiana across the Ohio River.

The collision occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. local time when a southbound vehicle collided with a stalled car, crossed into northbound traffic, and hit a tractor-trailer. This impact caused the tractor-trailer to fall through the rails and hang dangerously off the side of the bridge, as reported by Greenberg.

Rescuers quickly prepared a rope system to lower firefighter Bryce Carden to rescue the woman while the driver was still stuck in the cab.

It took rescuers 40 minutes to establish a rope system on the bridge while the driver was stuck in the hanging cab, according to Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neill.

Carden was recorded descending down to the cab, securing the driver with a safety belt, and raising her back to the bridge surface. The woman was retrieved without any harm, according to officials.

Police reported that three additional vehicles were part of the collision, resulting in two individuals being transported to the hospital with injuries that could be life-threatening.
