Driver High on Drugs and Booze Slammed Porsche on Guardrail in Wyoming; Witness Say Lucky to Be Alive after Such Horrific Crash
A man is currently incarcerated after admitting to his third DUI offense in less than four years. He was apprehended after driving his Porsche at high speed through downtown Gillette on Sunday night, crashing into a guardrail, and flipping his car. He then tried to escape on foot.
A 39-year-old man named Dustin W. Ostert is facing charges for multiple misdemeanors. These charges include driving under the influence, a second offense of driving under suspension, driving without an interlock offense, failure to maintain lane, and reckless driving.
Ostert admitted his guilt to three charges on Tuesday in Campbell County Circuit Court and did not contest the charges of reckless driving and failure to maintain a lane.
He is currently in custody at the Campbell County Detention Center, with a cash bond set at $35,000.
A concerned driver reported Ostert’s reckless driving after witnessing a 2004 blue Porsche speeding down East 2nd Street in downtown Gillette around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the caller reported that the driver was observed speeding down the road, veering into oncoming traffic, bumping curbs, and even driving on the sidewalk.
The speed at which Ostert was driving remains uncertain, according to Brent Wasson, Gillette Deputy Chief of Police.
While driving on 4-J Road, Ostert accelerated and veered off the road, colliding with a guardrail. This caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times, covering a distance of approximately 351 feet, before coming to rest on its side, according to court documents.
Ostert miraculously escaped from the wrecked vehicle and made a desperate attempt to flee, only to be captured by two vigilant male eyewitnesses and the prompt Gillette Police Department officers, who swiftly restrained him with handcuffs.
As Ostert sat upright, the officer quickly detected a strong smell of alcohol and observed that Ostert’s eyes were bloodshot, watery, and had abnormally dilated pupils, as stated in the affidavit obtained by CowboyStateDaily.
Ostert’s sentencing is set for 9 a.m. on August 24th at Campbell County Circuit Court. He could potentially be sentenced to a maximum of two years in jail and face fines exceeding $4,500 for the five misdemeanors.
