Disturbing Act: 12-year-old Charged With Murder in Humboldt Suffocation Case of Cousin
A disturbing incident captured on a home security video reveals a shocking act committed by a young girl. The video shows a 12-year-old girl, who is about to celebrate her 13th birthday, using bedding to suffocate her 8-year-old cousin. District Attorney General Frederick H. Agee has confirmed the details of this tragic event. They were sharing a bunk bed while visiting family in Humboldt.
In the video, the 12-year-old girl can be seen tidying up the victim and adjusting her body. The victim’s origin is confirmed to be from the Middle Tennessee area, while the suspect hails from out of state, according to the DA.
The juvenile is now being charged with first-degree murder for the act, which has been described as “disturbing.”
“This is undeniably one of the most unsettling acts of violence ever prosecuted by my office,” Agee expresses.
A Petition of Delinquency has been filed by the Humboldt Police Department, charging the juvenile with first-degree murder. The district attorney has confirmed that an additional charge of tampering with evidence will be added.
Once a suspect reaches the age of 19, the juvenile court no longer has jurisdiction, meaning they are no longer subject to detention, supervision, or court-ordered mental health treatment.
The office of DA Frederick H. Agee is requesting Juvenile Judge Mark Johnson to transfer the child to Circuit Court for trial as an adult, potentially resulting in a longer sentence. The DA emphasizes the possibility of either incarceration or supervision with court-ordered conditions.

According to DA Agee, the petition to try the child as an adult is based on the severity of the crime.
The Humboldt Police Department investigators and a district attorney investigator have obtained a video that reportedly shows a murder. The material was examined by these investigators and others.
The video’s existence came to the attention of the DA’s office on Wednesday, while the tragic passing of the 8-year-old occurred on Monday.
A detention hearing has been scheduled for July 19 at 1 p.m. in the Gibson County Juvenile Court in Trenton. Judge Mark Johnson will preside over the hearing.
