A reporter asked Florida Gov. DeSantis about illegal immigration on Thursday. He told her, “You seem to have no sympathy for people that have been victimized by illegal aliens” after she said that ICE’s work is “a little sloppy.”
When the Republican talked about Operation Tidal Wave, a joint Florida-ICE operation that caught more than 1,100 illegal aliens and set a record, there were fireworks.
The reporter from Florida station WSVN told DeSantis, “This is great, this dog and pony show, but there are American citizens being deported—they show their birth certificates, passports, IDs, and a lot of the work being done is a little sloppy.”
To begin, I will let ICE handle your claim that they are deporting American citizens who show birth papers and other proof of citizenship. That doesn’t seem to be true to me, but I’ll let them answer that. You don’t seem to care, though. He replied, “You don’t seem to feel sorry for people who have been hurt by illegal immigrants.”
People are hurt when someone drives drunk and kills an American citizen. But what about people who were removed before Biden let them back in and then commit sexual crimes or murders? Then there are more victims because the federal government wasn’t paying attention and wasn’t ready to enforce the law in the past. So a lot of people have been hurt by people coming in illegally. Criminals from the Tren de Aragua gang have hurt people who shouldn’t have been in the country in the first place, DeSantis said.
“Let’s get this straight. For what do you fight?” He asked Desantis. “We are fighting for the people of Florida.” They should be able to live in a place where the law is followed. They need to be able to live in a safe state, and we need to do something about it.
“I’ll let them answer your claims.” However, the idea that because this is America, our borders should be open? Do you mean that we shouldn’t enforce immigration rules and should instead just do nothing? When did Biden let 7 or 8 million people into the country illegally? “No, that is not responsible,” DeSantis said in the end. “Our voters didn’t choose us to do that.” We’re fighting now. I have a gut feeling that many of the stories I hear are not true because I’ve seen it happen so many times.
