Dead Body Found in Fridge; Woman Arrested in Brooklyn

A Brooklyn woman is facing charges after officers made a gruesome discovery in her freezer – the dismembered body of a man who may have been there for months.

A shocking revelation unfolded on Monday following a tip received by Crime Stoppers. The incident occurred within a third-floor apartment on Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush, taking place just after 7 p.m. on Monday.

Heather Stines, 45, is facing charges for allegedly concealing a human corpse. She faced arraignment on Friday morning.

Authorities responded to the Flatbush apartment building for a wellness check. According to reports, authorities discovered both Hines, who answered the door, and various body parts of a man inside a sealed refrigerator.

A dismembered body, complete with a head and limbs, was discovered inside the freezer of the refrigerator.

Authorities suspect that the deceased individual, a middle-aged man, had been stored in the refrigerator for an extended period of time. The investigation suggests that the man’s death may be connected to a conflict related to illicit substances.

The victim has been identified as Kawsheen Gelzer, according to officials. The official cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.

At the time of her arrest, Stines had three open warrants for petit larceny from 2022.

Neighbors expressed their shock and disbelief.

“She doesn’t bother anyone. However, it is evident that she engages in smoking while making trips to retrieve her belongings. “It has been surprising me all along,” a neighbor remarked.

There are still many unanswered questions surrounding this tragic incident, as it has been classified as a homicide and no one has been held accountable for the death.

Authorities are seeking to interview an individual who reportedly resided in the same apartment as Stines.
