DC’s 1st Homicide Leaves 1 Woman Dead after a Shooting Incident; Suspect at Large
Washington DC: The authorities confirmed the first homicide incident in DC. An 18-year-old woman was shot and killed at a Friendship Heights motel in Washington, D.C.
Paramedics were called to the Embassy Suites Hotel on Military Road NW regarding a reported shooting on the seventh floor just after the clock struck midnight.
The victim, Ashalei Hinds, was first reported to have a cardiac arrest. Authorities at the scene declared Hinds dead, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). She was a resident of Clinton, Maryland.
There were approximately ten partygoers inside the room when the gunman started shooting, according to law enforcement officers.
Several visitors to the Embassy Suites reported hearing two gunshots followed by shouting at about 1:15 in the morning. There is a picture window beside each door in every hotel room. That window was broken in the room where the shooting happened. It is not clear what was used to smash the window.
It is unclear if Hinds was the murderer’s intended victim. Authorities said they were searching for a man who left the area donning a black ski mask and black clothes.
Additionally, up to six others who were in the room but left before police arrived are still wanted by investigators.
A video feed from the Friendship Heights Metro station on the D.C.-Maryland line shows police cars close to the Embassy Suites entrance, which is located less than a block away. The hotel administration declared that they were assisting the authorities with their inquiry.
The authorities have opened a probe into the matter and anyone with information is requested to contact the MPD.
