Customer Shot Dead by Armed Robber and then Robbed the Store at Gunpoint in New York City
New York City, NY: An armed robber breaks into a shop in the Bronx and shoots an innocent customer dead.
On Tuesday, authorities and sources stated that a shooter attempting to rob another person and the store shot and killed an innocent bystander inside a bodega in the Bronx.
At about 4:20 a.m. on Easter Sunday, investigators claimed that a 29-year-old man named Stefon Barnes was inside the Gourmet Deli on East Tremont Avenue, close to Marmion Avenue, when a shoplifter brandished a firearm and attempted to rob another customer.
According to the police, Barnes was hit in the right thigh by a gunshot fired by the armed man during the altercation.
Authorities claimed that Barnes died after being transferred to St. Barnabas Hospital.
According to footage obtained by WABC, Barnes was just standing there before the shooting, looking at a rack of chips for sale inside the store, when the failed robbery broke out just steps away from him.
The footage indicates that just moments ago, the deli was filled with revelers who were dancing and singing, one of them even had bunny ears.
In an interview with The Post, 64-year-old Antonio Sanchez said he was at the store purchasing drinks and juice when the shooting started.
Outside the deli, a temporary memorial had been up by Tuesday. It consisted of floral arrangements in containers constructed from empty tequila bottles (Espolón Blanco and Don Julio), candles, and a pressed cardboard box with inscriptions written by mourners attached to it.
The suspect, who is believed to have been wearing all black—a jacket over a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and sneakers—was captured in a photo that the New York Police Department posted early Tuesday.
He stands at a medium-to-large height, has a medium physique, and has a medium complexion.
