Conviction Upheld after Killers of Jackson Rapper filed Appeal claiming Prosecutorial Misconduct in Mississippi

A man’s conviction in connection to the death of a Jackson rapper has been affirmed by the Mississippi Court of Appeals.

Antoine Carr has filed an appeal, claiming that the state engaged in prosecutorial misconduct during its closing arguments. Nevertheless, the court determined that no “reversible error” was found. The court has confirmed Carr’s conviction and upheld the sentence.

In May 2022, Carr was convicted of first-degree murder for the shooting death of Lonnie Taylor, also known as Lil Lonnie. He received a life sentence and will be under the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).

An incident occurred in Jackson on April 19, 2018. Taylor was discovered inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

In April 2019, Monya Davis and Carr were both taken into custody in Texas. Marshun Carr was apprehended in Texas in relation to the incident.

Davis was also convicted in the case. In 2021, he received a life sentence and his appeal was subsequently denied.

Marshun Carr has been found guilty and has been given a sentence of 18 years in MDOC custody.
