Cleveland Mother Pleaded Guilty After She Left 1-Year-Old Daughter Home Alone For 10 Days While On Vacation

Cleveland, OH: An Ohio mother pled guilty on Thursday to the charge of aggravated murder for leaving her daughter, who was 16 months old at the time, at home alone in a playpen for ten days during the summer of 2017, while she was away on vacation.
As part of a plea bargain with Cuyahoga County prosecutors, Kristel Candelario, who is 32 years old, pleaded guilty to the charge of child endangerment. As part of the agreement, the prosecutors agreed to drop two counts of murder and a charge of felony assault. The sentence that Candelario will receive on March 18 will be for life in prison.
When Candelario traveled on vacation to Detroit and Puerto Rico in June 2023, she allegedly left her daughter Jailyn in their home in Cleveland, according to the authorities.

She found the girl in the playpen not breathing when she arrived ten days later, and she immediately dialed 911 to report the situation. After arriving on the scene, emergency personnel discovered that the girl was “extremely dehydrated” and proclaimed her dead immediately after receiving the news.
After conducting an autopsy, the medical examiner’s office in Cuyahoga County came to the conclusion that the infant had not only perished from acute dehydration but also from starvation.
