Christmas Day Tragedy: Man Died After Car Crashed and Fell Into River in DC

A man lost his life after his car fell into the Anacostia River. The accident happened on Christmas Day at around 2 pm.

Just before 2:00 p.m., D.C. Fire and EMS officials responded to a call regarding a car that had fallen into the river close to the 11th Street bridge.

To look for crash victims, a water rescue vehicle and divers entered the Anacostia.

An adult male was extracted from the vehicle and taken to a hospital due to a life-threatening injury. Afterward, the police declared him dead.

The rescuers kept looking for more victims in the river but they could not locate any more victims.

As of around 2:30 p.m., the three rescue divers and the two rescue swimmers who carried out the search and rescue had left the Anacostia and were being cleaned up.

The cause of the car’s plunge into the river remained unknown. The authorities have opened an investigation. The identity of the deceased is not disclosed by the authorities.
