Christmas Brings Bad News for 543 Workers in Bronx as Plastic Facility Announces Closure

Gary Plastic Packaging Corp., a Bronx, New York-based business specializing in plastic goods created from recycled materials, has announced major changes that will affect its workers.

The company intends to close its production facility located at 1340 Viele Avenue in the Bronx, as per a recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice.

All 543 workers at the location will be impacted by this closure, which is scheduled to start on March 15, 2024, and last until July 31, 2024.

The company’s earlier announcement in December 2022 about moving its operations to Spring Hill, Florida, is consistent with the decision to close the Bronx factory.

The WARN notice demonstrates that the business complies with federal laws requiring it to notify employees on time of any significant layoffs or closures.
