Chicago Woman Gets 58 Years for Brutal Murder and Dismemberment of 69-Year-Old Landlord
A woman from Chicago was found guilty of murdering and dismembering her landlord, and she was sentenced to 58 years in jail.
It is reported that Sandra Kolalou was sentenced by Cook County Judge Ursula Walowski on Wednesday, July 10. This sentencing occurred about three months after her conviction for the first-degree murder of Frances Walker, 69 years old, in October 2022.
The publications stated that Walowski handed down a 50-year prison term to Kolalou for Walker’s murder, six years for dismemberment, and two years for aggravated identity theft. The Chicago Tribune reports that the ruling would be appealed by Kolalou’s counsel.
According to WGN-TV, Kolalou told the court, “I understand a jury found me legally liable for murder,” while claiming her innocence during the sentencing process. However, I am innocent of this crime. I have never hurt Fran, and God is my testimony.
Katerina Lee Walker, Walker’s niece, testified that her aunt had been socially reclusive after her death during the court session as reported by PEOPLE.
In the home they shared in the Arcadia Terrace neighborhood, Walker’s severed body parts, including her skull and limbs, were discovered in a freezer. After other residents heard screaming in the middle of the night and were unable to locate Walker, the police were able to make the discovery.
According to Brendan Deenihan, chief of detectives for the Chicago Police Department, “Based upon the totality of the evidence, the detectives believe the crime actually occurred in the victim’s bedroom. Then they do believe that the dismemberment took place on the first floor of that residence.” This information was shared during an earlier press conference.
Walker had “recently” been evicted from her home, according to Deenihan, who further said that this was the cause of her death.
The obituary describes Walker as a “talented pianist and organist.”
“Fran was a devoted Catholic who respected all religions. She was kind, caring, positive, and spunky,” the obituary added.
