Capitol Rioter from El Paso Sentenced to Nearly Three Years in Prison
A man from El Paso was sentenced to prison on Thursday for his involvement in the events that took place during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. He had previously pleaded guilty to several felonies and misdemeanor offenses.
David Rene Arredondo, 48, has been given a prison sentence of 33 months, along with three years of supervised release and a requirement to pay $2,000 in restitution.
On January 3, 2024, Arredondo admitted guilt to a total of eight charges, which included serious offenses such as civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers. Furthermore, there are additional felonies.
Arredondo has admitted to six misdemeanor offenses, which involve his actions in restricted areas and buildings. These offenses include disorderly conduct, engaging in physical violence, and participating in demonstrations within the Capitol building.
Court documents reveal that Arredondo was captured in open-source images, videos, and U.S. Capitol surveillance footage, showing his presence inside and around the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021.
Arredondo made the journey from his residence in El Paso, Texas, to Washington, D.C., and resided in the Capitol Hill vicinity.
According to a document, video footage captured outside the Capitol building on January 6th shows Arredondo forcefully removing bike rack fencing from a perimeter line and pushing it against officers who were trying to prevent the crowd from entering the East Plaza.

According to the documents, video footage shows Arredondo engaging in physical contact with a police officer who was trying to prevent rioters from entering the Capitol building.
In the video, Arredondo is shown forcefully grabbing and pulling the arm of a police officer who was surrounded by a chaotic crowd. Another police officer is seen being forcefully pulled away by the mob and collapsing onto the ground.
More video footage has emerged showing Arredondo entering the Capitol building through the East Rotunda Doors and staying inside for approximately 35 minutes.
Arredondo was apprehended by FBI agents on October 26, 2022, in El Paso as reported by the US Department of Justice.
Over the course of 43 months starting from Jan. 6, 2021, a significant number of individuals, totaling more than 1,488, have faced charges in almost every state across the country for their involvement in the U.S. Capitol breach.
