California Man Sentenced to Jail for Alleged Molestation of Family Relative; Victim was 6 when Abuse Started and Ended only when Victim Moved out at 18
A Simi Valley resident has been sentenced for the long-term sexual abuse of a relative, bringing justice to the victim after a decade of suffering.
A 65-year-old man named Phillip Allen Fleming has been sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in state prison for committing continuous abuse between 1996 and 2007, as announced by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on Friday.
The crimes started when the victim was only six years old and continued until she moved out of the home at age 18, according to a statement from the DA’s office.
An investigation was launched into Fleming following the victim’s report of molestation in April of 2021.
In May, he admitted his guilt to a charge of felony continuous sexual abuse and two charges of felony lewd acts upon a child.
The DA’s Office stated that the individual confessed to additional allegations regarding the victim’s age, vulnerability, and the abuse of a position of trust as per KTLA News.
“This case highlights the importance of California’s extended statute of limitations on child sex crimes. It serves as a reminder that victims of child sexual abuse have the opportunity to come forward and seek justice, even if the offenses occurred many years ago,” stated Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Moreno, who handled the prosecution of this case.
