Bus Strike Came to an End After a New Contract in Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita, California: The Santa Clarita bus strike came to an end on Sunday when MV Transportation employees who are Teamster-represented, including bus drivers, dispatchers, ambassadors and customer service representatives, overwhelmingly approved a new contract.
On Monday, the buses are scheduled to begin operating at 4:30 a.m. According to Barbara Maynard of Teamsters Local 572, the members approved an agreement that included “significant wage increases, as well as increases to the training premium, while protecting health coverage without additional out-of-pocket expenses.”
Santa Clarita Transit has a contract with MV Transportation and is required to run five local routes and school routes, Monday through Friday, on a restricted schedule. Although it was eventually expanded, the special needs rider Dial-A-Ride and Access program continued to run on a restricted schedule.
On weekends, all bus service in Santa Clarita was suspended due to a shortage of drivers. In 2022, 2023, and 2024, the union requested pay increases of 9%, 8%, and 8%, respectively.
Lourdes Garcia, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 572 said, “The entire Teamster family is proud of the sacrifices members have made – including striking during the Thanksgiving holiday – to secure a fair contract for their families.”
