Charlotte, NC: North Carolina authorities have released information regarding the murders of a mother and her two children who went missing for almost two weeks before their bodies were discovered.

There are three counts of murder and one count of concealment of death against 34-year-old Benjamin Joseph Taylor. He stands accused of the murders of Makayla Johnson, 22, Miracle Johnson, 4, and Messiah Johnson, 7 months.

Johnson stopped corresponding with relatives on March 3, leading to the report of her and her two children as missing. Their last known location in Charlotte was on the 400 block of Orchard Trace Lane on January 20, according to her family.

On March 5, members of Johnson’s family and detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department tried to knock on his door, but nobody was there. An employee in charge of maintenance said investigators that he tried to unlock the door using a master key, but the security chain prevented him from doing so.

He said that no one had answered his phone. Affidavit testimony said that on March 6, investigators viewed security footage that demonstrated Taylor boarding a bus and departing the state. On March 8, police notified the public of a missing person’s situation.

On March 16, police gained entry to Johnson’s residence after obtaining a search warrant. Inside, they discovered Johnson’s lifeless body, bound and bound in a plastic coffin.

Several used candles and air fresheners were also found, according to the complaint. “The AC unit was set to a low setting of about 62 degrees and multiple fans were activated.”

On March 16, the next day, police subsequently searched Taylor’s vehicle. Upon searching the trunk, the affidavit stated that Miracle and Messiah were found in plastic bags within travel bags. According to the detectives, Miracle had diapers wrapped over her head and wrists. The reasons for deaths have not been announced as of yet.

Near the U.S.-Mexico border in California, Taylor was apprehended by police on March 18. Although the exact method by which Taylor was located in California remains unclear, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI field office in that state were thanked in a press statement.

Last week, Taylor was returned to North Carolina after being transported to the Imperial County Jail and extradited. The Mecklenburg County Jail does not have a bond on him as per Law and Crime.
