Body Found in NYC Sleeping Bag: Ex-Con Arrested for Concealment
Authorities in New York City claimed they found a woman’s body inside a sleeping bag on a street, and they arrested and charged an ex-con in connection with the death.
Police responded to a report of a fight at the intersection of East 27th Street and 2nd Avenue in the Kips Bay area on Monday, July 8, and arrested 55-year-old Chad Irish on charges of concealment of a human corpse, according to a statement shared with PEOPLE by the New York Police Department. A “disorderly crowd” allegedly formed and “became irate” while he was being taken into jail, as stated in the statement.
According to ABC 7’s reporting, the argument started because a resident of the area suspected Irish, who uses a wheelchair. According to the source, on Friday, July 5, authorities found the body of 31-year-old Jazmeen Williams inside a plastic bag next to many trash bags on East 27th Street. Surveillance footage showed a guy in a motorized wheelchair transferring the body. The cops discovered Williams’ body inside a sleeping bag after they opened the bag.
Fox 5 cites video showing a mob of outraged onlookers encircling the guy as he is being led away in an ambulance after he allegedly tried to assault the officer and yelled obscenities.
According to the statement, Irish was sent to a hospital where they are listed in a stable condition. The investigation is still ongoing, according to the police.
The New York Police Department stated that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had ruled that Williams was killed by gunshot to the head, and that her death had been officially deemed a homicide.
Irish has not been officially charged with murder, but a search warrant has been executed at his residence, where police believe Williams was killed, according to ABC 7. According to the source, Irish has a criminal record that includes 21 arrests, and he has been incarcerated multiple times.
The New York Daily News reports that the Irish’s criminal record includes offenses like as narcotics possession, arson, robbery, and assault that occurred as far back as 1985.
No one knows whether Irish has hired a lawyer to defend him or whether he has entered a plea to the present accusation of concealing a human corpse. Whether or if Irish and Williams were acquainted is yet unknown, according to the police.
“He just threw my baby out like garbage,” victim Nicole Williams told the Daily News. Evil, this is. Gosh, it’s wicked.
On Wednesday, July 10, the family and friends of the victim have contributed over $10,000 through a GoFundMe page put up to assist with funeral costs.
