BMW Stolen in Dramatic Dealership Heist, 14-year-old Suspect Arrested
A group of car thieves targeted dealerships in the Detroit Metro Area and successfully stole a high-end luxury car by forcefully crashing through the showroom window. Some positive developments? A 14-year-old boy is now in police custody, potentially reducing the number of thieves.
Envy Auto Group in St Clair Shores, Michigan, recently had an unfortunate incident where six individuals managed to break into the showroom and steal an older BMW M6. The local Detroit media has referred to the car as “rare,” according to WXYZ 7.
“It’s got major sentimental value. He went through a few car shows and saved up all the prize money to get a car,” Palazzolo said.
The thieves, according to Palazzolo, circled the showroom for about half an hour. The thieves using a Jeep stolen from another dealership then smashed through the garage door. A total of six people then exited the vehicle looking for the keys to the high-priced sports cars inside.
The owner of Envy Auto Group recovered his BMW M6 in Detroit a short time later after he tracked it with an Apple Airtag.
“The car is damaged beyond repair,” Palazzolo added when asked if the car was totaled or salvageable.
“It could have been so much worse. And with the value of the cars in here, only one was taken. But it still doesn’t make it right,” Palazzolo said.
According to a report from Fox 2 News, a 14-year-old boy was driving the Bimmer. The crew had more work to do. A&B Motors in nearby Roseville, Michigan was also targeted by car thieves. A total of eight dealerships experienced thefts, resulting in the loss of four vehicles. Details about the teenager in custody remain limited. According to Automotive News, the Michigan State Police suspect that the crew is based in Detroit and primarily dismantling the stolen cars for parts.
Car theft continues to plague communities nationwide. Over a million cars were stolen last year. Car thefts have a significant impact on car insurance rates, which in turn contribute to economic inflation.
