BHPD plans a DUI Checkpoint near Santa Monica Boulevard and Crescent Drive on Dec 15th

On December 15, the Beverly Hills Police Department will make a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint between North Santa Monica Boulevard and Crescent Drive. The checking will start at 7 p.m. and last up to 2 a.m. in the area.

Every vehicle that will go via the checkpoint will be stopped for checking. Uniformed officers will check the drivers for alcohol and/or drug impairment. Additionally, officers will verify that each driver they contact has a current driver’s license.

The locations of DUI checkpoints are chosen using crash data on impaired driving in the past. DUI checkpoints primarily aim to increase public safety by removing suspected drunk drivers from the road.

The police also aim to make people aware that alcohol is not the single cause of DUI. Certain drugs and prescription medicines can also cause driving impairments. While marijuana is legal for both medical and recreational use, it is not permitted to drive after intoxication.

Any driver who faces charges of DUI for the first time will be fined, and the license will be suspended. The total of fines and penalties can go up to $13,500.

BHPD Chief Mark G. Stainbrook said, “Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk. Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
