Bexar County Deputy Attacked by Loose Dog, Fires Weapon in Defense

Miami Standard (Bexar County, TX) – A Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputy was attacked by a loose dog while responding to a call on the far west side Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Deputies were dispatched to the 13000 block of Elm Forrest Drive for a report of loose dogs. Upon arrival, they made contact with the owner of the animals.

According to BCSO, one of the aggressive dogs ran through an open gate and charged at a deputy, causing him to fall to the ground. The dog bit the deputy multiple times on his lower legs before he was able to regain his footing. In self-defense, the deputy fired his service weapon at the dog and retreated to his patrol vehicle.

Other units quickly arrived at the scene and secured the area while awaiting Animal Control’s response. Animal Control officers later assisted in retrieving two aggressive dogs.

The injured deputy was transported by EMS to a local hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the dogs’ owner received citations, and Animal Control is currently investigating the incident. The dogs have been taken to a no-kill shelter.
