A prize of $10,000 is being offered for information that results in the conviction of the individual who recently shot a bald eagle in eastern Tennessee. This majestic bird is protected by the federal law.

A fisherman in Kingston found the injured eagle close to Watts Bar Lake. After getting in touch with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the angler arranged for the raptor to be taken to the Memphis Zoo.

The bird is recovering from the gunshot. The bullet that was recovered from it has been submitted to a lab to be tested for ballistics.

In a news release on Monday, the Center for Biological Diversity announced that it has increased the $2,500 reward that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was offering to $7,500.

“The senseless and illegal shooting of this majestic bird is outrageous, and we want the perpetrator brought to justice,” said Will Harlan, a senior scientist at the Center. “This cowardly act against America’s national bird can’t go unpunished. We hope someone steps forward with information.”
