Authorities Identified Two Victims of Minnehaha Neighborhood Shooting

Two persons found dead in the Minnehaha Neighborhood on Friday night have been identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Following an incident near Cleveland Avenue and Cuba Street, Kiara Morgan-Weiland, 23, and Colton Russell, 37, both passed away. Further testing or investigation is necessary because the cause and manner of their death are still “pending.”

According to a Spokane police news release, officers were called to multiple gunshot reports just after 11 p.m. on Friday. Police discovered two people dead: one woman in the street and one man inside a car.

Police are still trying to identify a suspect and have not stated if they were shot.

A neighbor named Terry Olson said he heard six or seven gunshots while he was in bed. Upon rising, he noticed two individuals scurrying across the road. Before she passed away, the woman was calling for assistance as she fell, got back up, and fell again.

Olson said that after his wife dialed 911, he stated to the authorities. He said that until six a.m. on Saturday, police were present.
