Armed Robbery Spree in Chicago, Looted 7 Shops and Restaurants within 30 Minutes in an Early Morning Crime Spree
Chicago, IL: The Chicago city is in shock after a group of robbers robbed 7 business establishments within 30 minutes.
A gang of robbers hit multiple gas stations and coffee shops early Thursday morning, taking less than an hour to make off with the cash.
The incident did not result in any injuries, although it did force the closure of one West Loop shop.
At 5:57 in the morning, the robbers targeted a Dunkin’ Donuts located at 901 W. Washington Blvd.
The cash registers and a man inside, who was 21 years old, were both plundered. The group had been stealing establishments for thirty minutes before he even knew it—and he was just one of many victims.
The Starbucks at 40 N. Clinton St., situated just at Washington Boulevard steps from the Ogilvie Transportation Center, was targeted by the robbers earlier, at approximately 5:45 a.m. The burglars broke the front door just as the coffee was starting to roast in the morning.
The Starbucks was momentarily closed Thursday afternoon, but police said they stole money from inside.
A Dunkin’ Donuts at 1519 W. Madison St. on the Near West Side was also damaged around 5:30 a.m., and another Dunkin’ Donuts at 500 W. Roosevelt Rd. at Canal Street was damaged at 6 a.m., according to a community alert.
Also hit was a business located in the 200 block of West Jackson Boulevard downtown, as well as the 500 block of West Grenshaw Street immediately southwest of downtown.
Circle K, is a convenience shop located at 3601 N. Western Ave., a kitty-corner from Lane Tech High School in North Center, was the last business to be attacked. It was far from the other crime scenes. Arrested around 6:15 a.m. was the Circle K.
According to a Circle K employee, three of the five males who barricaded themselves inside the store brandished firearms. According to the employee, they made off with $47 from the register.
According to police radio communications, a group of four or five individuals was responsible for each heist, and the details were consistent across all cases. As a getaway vehicle, they utilized a silver Nissan sedan.
Hoodies, trousers, face masks, and medical gloves were worn by several of the robbers. They were armed with firearms.
Seven separate establishments were the targets of the heists, which occurred within a 45-minute time frame. Not a single arrest had been made after several hours.
The Chicago Police Department wants companies to know that their security cameras need to be checked regularly.
