Anti-Toxin Blogger Accused of Using Eyedrops to Kill Her Husband: Iowa Authorities

Pleasantville, Iowa- A woman from Iowa is accused of poisoning her husband with eyedrops due to her obsession with “harmful chemicals and other toxins,” according to the police.

A woman named Daisy Zantjer, aged 39, is facing charges related to administering harmful substances and domestic abuse causing bodily injury, as per court records from Marion County obtained by Law&Crime.

In the past, a woman with the same name as the author published a series of blog posts that raised concerns about the presence of chemicals in common household products. Police claim that the person responsible for the alleged poisoning is also the author of the anti-toxin.

“I am a Christian woman who wants to do right by her family and part of that is keeping them free from harmful chemicals and other toxins that could destroy their body,” Daisy Zantjer wrote on Oct. 30, 2018.

A blog post titled “What I am Passionate About” was recently published on the popular professional networking platform LinkedIn. The author’s profile page reveals their origin in Pleasantville, Iowa.

According to court documents, the individual in question is described by law enforcement as a resident of Pleasantville, residing on North Washington Street. The Pleasantville Police Department is the arresting agency in the case.

According to an email sent to Law&Crime, Pleasantville Police Chief Joe Mrstik stated that the image on the LinkedIn profile is believed to be Mrs. Zantjer.

Police, on the other hand, are remaining tight-lipped about the majority of the information.

The charging documents filed in Marion County District Court provide a concise explanation for the woman’s arrest based on probable cause.

“Daisy Zantjer did admit during an interview to administering a harmful substance, on two separate occasions, called tetrahdrozoline hydrochloride to her husband Allan Zantjer, in July of 2023,” the harmful substance charging documents read. “On or about the above date and time, the Defendant, Daisy Zantjer did administer a harmful substance known as Tetrahdrozoline to her husband, Allan Zantjer.”

The charging documents provide a brief account of the domestic abuse incident: “Around the mentioned date and time, the Defendant engaged in domestic assault against Allan Zantjer, resulting in injury by surreptitiously adding Tetrahydrozoline to his drink.”

The police chief informed Law&Crime that due to the ongoing nature of the case, there are limitations on the information that can be disclosed at this time.

“Based on the interview with Daisy and the initial statement from the victim, charges were warranted in this case,” Mrstik told Law&Crime. “We will continue working with the Marion County Attorney’s office and the Department of Criminal Investigation to see if any additional charges will be filed.”

However, based on previous writings, it seems that a shift occurred from opposing modernity to focusing on domestic matters, while also acknowledging the potential risks associated with modern chemistry.

“It’s like feeding someone arsenic,” the author wrote in a LinkedIn blog post about doing your own research dated Nov. 1, 2018. “It’s not going to kill that person right away. It’s killing them slowly.”

Efforts promoting organic retailers include messages against chemicals and toxins.

“I want to see others who care about themselves join me in being toxic-free and financially free,” one post reads. “If you decide you want to transfer to spending a toxic-free and organic store, feel free to message me and I will give you my website.”

Local and state law enforcement took Zantjer into custody on July 30. She is currently being held on a bond of $12,000, which can be paid in cash or surety. An initial hearing in her case is scheduled for Aug. 8.
