Another Bomb Threat in Montgomery County, Mosque Evacuated
Montgomery County, Maryland: The Burtonsville Idara Jaferia Islamic Centre was evacuated on Friday after receiving a bomb threat. The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCDP) received the threat and acted promptly.
The Muslim civil rights and advocacy group Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) urged state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to look into the threat in a press release regarding the incident.
Shootings at a car are being investigated by Arlington police. According to a CAIR release, representatives of the mosque said that during Friday congregational prayers (Jummah), police arrived and reported that someone had made a bomb threat. They evacuated the mosque.
“Because of this alleged threat to a house of worship, we urge state and federal law enforcement authorities to bring hate crime charges against the perpetrator when they are apprehended,” said CAIR Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry in a statement. “We thank the Montgomery County Police Department for its swift and professional action in this case.”
The police department took to X (Formerly Twitter) to disclose that the threat was not valid.
