Advisory Issued for San Diego County Beaches Over Bacterial Contamination; Here is a List of Affected Areas

San Diego, CA: Authorities in San Diego have issued a new beach advisory for the residents. Health authorities have been issued over freshwater contact precautions for beaches in San Diego County.

There are high amounts of bacteria in the ocean waters throughout southern San Diego County; beaches from IB to Coronado are closed due to contamination warnings, and advisories are visible from Ocean Beach to La Jolla Shores.

Beachgoers are advised to stay away from the water on these beaches:

  • Ocean Beach – Dog Beach
  • Tourmaline Surf Park – Pacific Beach
  • La Jolla – Whispering Sands Beach, La Jolla Cove, Avenida De Play and Children’s Pool
  • Coronado – North Beach and Dog Beach
  • Mission Bay – Mission Point Park

The county claims that the reasons for all of the alerts were bacteria levels above health limits.

The advisory was released last week and the authorities have not set a date up to which the advisory will be in effect.

This occurs at a time when San Diego County is still struggling to deal with the flood of sewage from Tijuana and a failing South Bay treatment facility that has restricted access to the southernmost beaches in the area for many years.

San Diego County has been the subject of measurements by the County Health Department. The bacteria levels were surprising because there haven’t been any heavy rains lately, especially for the northern beaches.

On Tuesday morning, the authorities are anticipated to carry out additional water tests. There might be updates as soon as Tuesday afternoon.

Along the shorelines of Imperial Beach and Silver Strand, there is still one warning and two closures in effect. These closures are different from advisories in that they signify the presence of sewage.
