Police have detained a man who allegedly shot inside his neighbor’s home in Northern California.
Around 4:22 a.m., the Galt Police Department responded to a complaint of a shooting in the 400 block of North Lincoln Way. The reporting party stated that their upstairs neighbor approached the front door of their home, brandished a firearm, shot one bullet at the door, and then retreated to his flat.
According to GPD, the victims knew nothing about the suspect, and no one was hurt inside the home. The event was caught on Ring camera footage. In response, GPD’s reaction team and the Elk Grove Police Department formed a perimeter around the scene and assisted residents with evacuation or shelter in place.
SWAT personnel issued statements instructing the subject to surrender, according to GPD. A short while later, the male suspect left his flat and was arrested without incident.
The culprit was identified as Javier Ordaz, 40, of Galt. A search warrant was performed at his home, and authorities say they found a firearm believed to have been used in the crime. According to GPD, the firearm was reported stolen, and Ordaz was identified as a convicted felon with past robbery convictions.
Ordaz was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for suspected assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited house, and felon in possession of a handgun, according to GPD. He is now not eligible for bail and is set to appear in court on July 1.
