Cambria County, Pennsylvania – A former Cambria Heights School District student has filed a lawsuit against the district and a former teacher who was sentenced to jail for having a sexual contact with her.
The teacher, Isaac Vescovi, 30, of Patton, was arrested and charged in October 2024 after police got a child line report from the school system about an alleged inappropriate contact between him and a 17-year-old female student.
According to the lawsuit documents, filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the plaintiff, known as Jane Doe, was sexually attacked by Vescovi while a student at the school and claims the district attempted to cover up his actions.
According to the lawsuit, the school system knew Vescovi had “a propensity to and reputation for committing heinous acts against students” and was aware of rumors of illegal contact. According to the records, the district’s neglect for the situation resulted in the former student being abused, and the administration reportedly took action to protect itself and Vescovi instead.
Vescovi worked for the school district as a math instructor. According to the lawsuit, he worked as a homeroom instructor from the 2021-2022 school year until the 2023-2024 school year, grooming the then-16-year-old pupil. Vescovi apparently flirted with her and began texting her on social media, including Snapchat, where obscene photographs and videos were exchanged. It was discovered that he also communicated with her using the district’s email system.
Vescovi finally persuaded the teenage student to visit him in his classroom, when no other pupils were present, and engage in inappropriate contact, such as “touching, kissing, and groping,” according to court filings. Word spread among other students, instructors, and staff about Vescovi’s developing friendship with the teen, which was freely discussed.
During the summer of 2023, the former student visited Altoona and met Vescovi in a parking lot for “dates” that included kissing and touching. District personnel learned about Vescovi’s excursions to Altoona and questioned him about his relationship with the adolescent. Vescovi revealed that he had been “hanging out” with her. The claim alleges that the school district failed to report the relationship or take any measures to protect the former student.
According to the lawsuit, Vescovi took over as head coach of the district’s girls’ basketball team for the 2023-2024 school year. The former student was a part of the team while Vescovi was the head coach.
Vescovi’s friendship with the then-16-year-old grew stronger during the summer of 2023, when he encouraged her to come to his home in Patton for sex. According to the lawsuit, the former pupil made frequent excursions to his residence for sex over the summer of 2024. Vescovi then hired a hotel room in Indiana County in September 2024, where they allegedly had sex.
Vescovi was arrested on October 7, 2024, for making inappropriate contact. He was charged with a third-degree felony for intercourse or sexual contact with a school student, corruption of children, criminal use of a communication facility, and unlawful contact with a minor.
He later pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony charge of intercourse or sexual contact with a school kid on Jan. 31 and was sentenced to serve time in Cambria County Prison on April 29. He is currently out of jail on work release.
