A 2-year-old girl was killed after Uber hit and ran over her in Texas

Houston, TX: Tragically, a rideshare driver in Texas left a family at their apartment complex and then struck and killed a 2-year-old girl who was in the car with them.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon after Muhammad Khan, an Uber driver, left off a family of four—two adults and two children—at an apartment on Waverly Drive in Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
A 2-year-old daughter was left waiting in the parking lot while video from a Ring camera showed two women and a 6-year-old child walking toward one apartment.
The girl was too little for Khan to see over his dashboard as she walked in front of the vehicle, so he allegedly hit and ran over her as he began to drive out of the parking lot, according to authorities. Per the news release from the sheriff’s office, the young child was crushed beneath the left rear tire of the vehicle.
A number of males, along with the women, attempted to abduct the infant. Even Khan’s car was immobile after he attempted to move it. According to the sheriff’s office, that’s when all the grown-ups dragged Khan out of his vehicle and began assaulting him.
The child was transferred to a nearby petrol station and emergency services were summoned after someone else relocated the vehicle. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in severe condition after medics performed life-saving procedures. At the hospital, she was declared dead.
After the attack, Khan was also transported to the hospital with injuries that did not pose a life-threatening risk. Officers who responded to the site reported that Khan exhibited no symptoms of “impairment.” He had no problem helping out with the probe.
The investigation by the sheriff’s office is ongoing, and no charges have been lodged yet.
In a statement, Uber confirmed that the driver has been suspended from the service indefinitely while authorities investigate.
