77-Year-Old Spring Valley Man Killed in La Mesa Crash After SUV Overturns

LA MESA, Calif. — A 77-year-old man from Spring Valley died early Friday morning after his SUV collided with a pickup truck and overturned on State Route 94 in La Mesa, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. as the man was driving a Ford Expedition westbound on Route 94, just east of Massachusetts Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, the SUV veered to the left and struck a Ford F-150 traveling in the adjacent lane.

The impact caused the Expedition to overturn and sent the F-150 over the center divider into the eastbound lanes, CHP officials said.

Paramedics rushed the SUV driver to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities said the man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the F-150 was not injured.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
