Riverside, CA – A California man has been charged with attempted murder after a shocking road rage incident in Riverside left a motorcyclist injured and dragged hundreds of feet across an intersection.
The horrifying encounter, caught on camera and obtained by KABC, took place on April 1 in the La Sierra neighborhood. According to authorities, 32-year-old Gary Delandro was behind the wheel of a black Nissan when the altercation began.
Footage shows the Nissan cutting off an unnamed motorcyclist at a red light, forcing the rider to swerve to avoid a collision. Irritated by the reckless driving, the motorcyclist says he shook his head in disapproval, prompting Delandro to roll down his window and confront him.
“Yeah I got mad, I’m shaking my head, and I looked back, and I see him roll down the window.. and I see him saying something,” the biker told the outlet.
The biker rode off after the brief exchange but stopped at the next intersection—unaware that Delandro was now pursuing him. Moments later, Delandro reportedly rammed the motorcycle from behind, knocking the rider off and then accelerating, dragging the biker trapped under the car’s front bumper.
“I look back just in time to see him coming,” the rider said. “He rear-ends me, knocks me off, and then floors it over me.”
The biker, who suffered moderate injuries including burns and deep cuts requiring stitches, was heard screaming while trying to escape from underneath the car. Delandro eventually reversed and fled the scene, leaving the rider on the road.
Delandro later turned himself in to the Riverside Police Department. He is now facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and hit-and-run. He is being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center.
The biker, speaking to the press, condemned Delandro’s dangerous behavior: “He didn’t care about me or anyone else… There’s a reason California allows lane splitting, but nothing justifies trying to kill someone.”
