Boyfriend Finds Newborn in Trash Bag, Georgia Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder in Macon

Macon, GA — A 22-year-old woman from Georgia is facing serious charges after her newborn baby boy was found alive inside a trash bag on the back porch of her home.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Alaynah Rappuhn was arrested on April 1, a day after she sought emergency treatment at Piedmont Macon Hospital for excessive bleeding.

Investigators say Rappuhn’s boyfriend noticed her condition on the afternoon of March 31 and rushed her to the hospital. Before they left, Rappuhn allegedly left a trash bag on the back porch.

While retrieving her belongings later that day, the boyfriend noticed the trash bag moving. When he opened it, he found a newborn baby wrapped in towels. Authorities say the baby was rushed to the hospital and is currently alive but in critical condition.

Detectives later determined that Rappuhn had given birth around 4:30 a.m. on March 31 but did not tell anyone, including her boyfriend or hospital staff. She allegedly placed the baby in the trash bag shortly after delivery.

Rappuhn was taken into custody after being discharged from the hospital. She has been charged with attempted murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. A judge ordered her to be held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
