San Diego, CA – Southern California is experiencing cool temperatures and periodic showers as a low-pressure system lingers over the region, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported. The heaviest rainfall is expected in San Diego County, with amounts ranging from 0.05 to 0.20 inches in lower elevations and up to 0.50 inches in higher elevations.
Mountain areas will see light snowfall, with accumulations of 2-4 inches and flurries possible as low as 4,000 feet.
Temperatures on Thursday will remain significantly below average, with highs 10-20 degrees below normal. Mountain areas will see temperatures in the 30s, while coastal regions will hover around 60 degrees. The western valleys are expected to reach around 60, foothills 50-55, mountains 44-54, and deserts 66-70.
Winds in the mountains and deserts will reach 20-30 mph, with gusts exceeding 45 mph on desert slopes. The NWS warns that blowing dust may reduce visibility in desert regions.
By the weekend, the low-pressure system will move east, allowing a ridge of high pressure to build. This shift will bring a warming trend, returning temperatures to seasonal averages by Sunday.
Inland areas are expected to warm 10-15 degrees above normal by the middle of next week.
