BSO Miami-Dade deputy arrested in Broward, charged with kidnapping and beating fiancée

Pompano Beach, Florida – A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office officer was arrested Thursday in Broward County after allegedly attacking his fiancée during a heated fight caught on surveillance camera.

According to jail records, Deputy Terrance Dion Chester, 28, was arrested by Broward Sheriff’s Office officers in Pompano Beach on counts of kidnapping while inflicting physical harm or harassing a victim, battery/domestic violence, and improper exhibition of a handgun.

According to the arrest record, officers went to a battery complaint at a house on Wednesday after a 911 caller said “a female was getting hit by a male with a gun.” The caller stated that the woman had been “dragged inside” the home by a man later identified as Chester.

When deputies arrived, they discovered Chester in his full MDSO road patrol outfit.

While standing to his left, deputies reported seeing the upper frame of a holstered revolver in the front of his waistband.

They claimed that as they gave him verbal directions, Chester reached for the revolver while it was still holstered, but he was quickly apprehended.

Deputies recovered a black Glock handgun from his waistline, claiming it contained a magazine loaded with 15 federal premium hollow-point rounds.

The victim, who has a two-year-old kid with Chester and has been engaged to him for five years, told authorities that the altercation started inside their apartment over money difficulties, according to the report.

According to authorities, the woman stated that she placed her cellphone on the bed after Chester requested her to compensate him for earlier costs he had paid.

Deputies added that when the woman walked away from the house, Chester followed her, seizing the phone and attempted to return it.

As the debate heated up outdoors in a parking lot, Chester “suddenly struck the victim in her head area,” according to the report.

He then “grabbed her by the hair and began to forcibly drag her against her will” back to the house, according to the report.

Once inside, deputies say Chester let go of the victim. They claimed she snatched their infant and fled the house a second time, staying outside until deputies arrived.

According to investigators, surveillance footage showed the woman walking away when Chester approached, hit her in the head with his right hand, grabbed the back of her head with his left, and delivered another punch to her face.

According to the investigation, while attempting to move her, Chester “paused, looked to his right, and rapidly drew his pistol from a concealed position inside his waistband.”

He then held the gun close to his right thigh, pointing it at the ground and looked away from her, according to officials.

Although the woman had no visible bruises or injuries, deputies noticed her hair sticking up in the back and grass on the right side of her garment.

According to investigators, Chester refused to speak with officers after being read his Miranda rights.

Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz acknowledged Chester’s employment with the department during the last five years and stated that he has been dismissed of duty.

“I am deeply troubled and angered by the arrest of one of my deputies on serious domestic-related charges,” Cordero-Stutz stated. “This action is entirely inappropriate and violates both our beliefs and the law. I want to be completely clear: no one is above the law. The safety and well-being of victims will always come first, and any member of this organization who breaks the community’s trust or their oath of service will be held completely accountable. There is no place for violence in this job or at home.”
