MIAMI – Family members are seeking answers after a loved one was discovered injured.
Janet Bowen, 78, is struggling for her life at Jackson South Medical Center.
According to hospital photos, she has major injuries, including a severe brain bleed.
Her family is attempting to determine what happened to her.
They say someone noticed her laying on the ground near her home, which is around Southwest 147th Avenue and 174th Street, and phoned 911 Friday morning.
Her family believes she was hit by a car that abandoned her.
“She left her house, walked to Publix, and was on her way back when she was hit,” said Bowen’s niece, Jillian Thomas.
Thomas reported that family members discovered food and Bowen’s missing shoe in the grass.
Thomas is devastated. She describes Bowen as a God-fearing woman who enjoys traveling and is generous and caring.
“She’s always with the family,” she claimed. “We adore our aunt to death. She’s extremely near. “Our family is very close.”
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office stated that detectives are investigating whether the incident was an accident or a hit-and-run.
Bowen’s family believes someone witnessed something because the incident occurred in the morning on a busy road.
They are seeking anyone with even the smallest amount of information to come forward.
