A man has been charged with DUI manslaughter in the 2020 Miami Gardens crash that killed three people

A guy has been detained in connection with a crash in Miami Gardens that killed three people nearly five years ago.

Richard Antoine, 47, was detained on Saturday and faces multiple accusations, including three counts of DUI manslaughter, according to court records.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on August 4, 2020, near the intersection of U.S. 441 and Northwest 204th Street.

According to the arrest request, Antoine was driving southbound on State Road 7 in the outside lane as he neared Northwest 204th Terrace when a second car, a Nissan Altima moving northbound, attempted to turn left.

The vehicles impacted outside the southbound lane, and when the Nissan spun, a passenger in the back was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the intersection’s southwest corner, according to the warrant.

According to the warrant, after the Nisan came to a halt, the driver and another passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had to use the Jaws of Life to extract their bodies from the vehicle.

The driver was Kazembe Colin Archer, and the passenger was his fiancée, Lashawn Verleen Robinson.

Tilda Yutelle Mitchell, a passenger who was ejected from the Nissan, also perished.

When Antoine’s automobile came to a stop after overturning and colliding with a light pole, he was transferred to Aventura Hospital for treatment.

According to the warrant, Antoine agreed to a voluntary blood draw and the downloading of his vehicle’s electronic data while in the hospital.

Antoine’s blood test results confirmed that he had THC in his system and that his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, according to the warrant.

The black box data from his automobile also revealed that he was going at 100 mph in a 45 mph zone when he collided with the Nissan.

A judge refused Antoine’s bond at his court appearance on Monday.

Robinson’s sister, Diamond Dean, said it’s great to finally get answers after all these years.

“During the time it felt like we weren’t going to get any justice for it because there were rumors maybe the driver who was my sister at the time may have been wrongfully turning so it felt like nothing would happen at the time and we would never get closure of what happened,” Dean told me. “It definitely answers everything that I questioned at first and I think I kind of let it go because I felt helpless but the fact that it’s being pursued and he’s being held accountable makes me have a little hope.”
