Father of Teen Killed by Cincinnati Police Allegedly Runs Over, Kills Officer

Less than 24 hours after his son died, the 18-year-old’s father reportedly killed a police officer with his car. He was very upset about his son’s death.

The double killing shocked the city of Ohio, where people are already worried about the role of US police in deadly encounters with civilians.

Last Thursday, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton was shot and killed. Police said he seemed to point a gun at an officer as he and three other people ran away from a stolen car.

Police shared video from a body camera that shows an officer yelling, “He’s got a gun!” He has a gun! To the right! Right there!” The video then becomes blurry and unclear, showing Hinton coming out from between two dumpsters. Another cop then shoots Hinton several times, killing him.

Later, a gun was found. It wasn’t fired.

Hinton’s family was very upset when they saw the video at a meeting with the cops. The young man’s father was especially upset.

Lawyers for the Hinton family said in a statement, “Ryan’s family, including Ryan’s father, was at the meeting and they were understandably upset as they watched the bodycam video.” “Ryan Hinton’s father left in his own car after the meeting with the police department. That was the last time we heard from him until we heard about the terrible accident involving a police officer working a traffic detail near the University of Cincinnati.”

That happened on Friday afternoon, when a car hit a police officer who was directing traffic at a crossing. The officer has not been named publicly yet.

Police found that the owner of that car was Rodney Hinton, the teen’s 38-year-old father. He was later charged with murder with a weapon. The police officer who was killed was not thought to have had anything to do with Ryan Hinton’s death.

“This is a terrible tragedy for everyone…” According to Michael Wright, the Hinton family lawyer, “This family lost their son, and this police officer lost his life.”
