11 Injured, 1 Killed After Downtown Myrtle Beach Shooting; Police Exchange Gunfire With Suspect

Eleven people were hurt in a shooting along North Ocean Boulevard overnight. One person died.

Police officer Michael Howard told The Sun News that someone fired a gun and was then shot by another cop. From what Myrtle Beach Police say, this happened around 11:50 p.m. on April 26.

Jerrius Davis, 18, of Bennettsville was shot and killed at 913 N. Ocean Blvd., which is marked as Ripley’s Mirror Maze, a tourist attraction, according to a news statement from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Howard, who lives in North Carolina, was on vacation with his family. Around 10:30 p.m., he heard someone yell “gun” while he was on the Boulevard with his family. He said that people started to “scatter.”

He left the hotel with his sister and then came back out. The 30-year-old then saw the person fire their gun and an officer shoot them.

Howard said, “I saw the guy fall over dead in front of me.” He also said that another woman was shot in the knees.

“I remember hearing bullets,” he said, adding that everyone who saw the shooting will be traumatised for life.

The shooting on Ocean Boulevard involving a Myrtle Beach police officer is being looked into by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. A spokesperson for the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Randolph Angotti, said that the department will decide if the officer’s shooting was legal.

From Eighth Avenue to 16th Avenue on North Ocean Boulevard was closed all day Sunday. It reopened in the afternoon. There was police tape on the road, and workers at a number of places, including Peaches Corner, had to take longer routes to get to work or couldn’t get there at all.

During the event, the officer was not hurt. What caused the killing remains unknown.

Police were looking into areas close to Ripley’s Crazy Golf and Peaches Corner.

On the beach, people were walking. On Sunday, some shops on the beach were open. It was not the same scene as Saturday night, when people said they hid in their hotel rooms and shops during and after the shooting.

It was because of the threat that one of the cops fired their gun, the post said.

The post said, “The Myrtle Beach Police Department prays for everyone who was affected by this incident and sends its deepest condolences.”

The post said that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division would look into what happened within the division.
