The federal stimulus payments expired in 2021, with no new national projects planned for 2025, however millions of Americans were eligible to receive millions of dollars until April 15 of this year. However, other states implemented financial aid methods such as rebates, tax credits, and subsidies.
The funds, standards, and dates for these programs, which go into force in April 2025, differ by jurisdiction. Tax filing dates and application procedures influence eligibility. Next, I will discuss the programs that have been confirmed in five states, as well as their current status and access constraints.
Georgia: Residents can obtain tax rebates
Georgia distributes automatic reimbursements resulting from a budget surplus in 2023. The Georgia Surplus Tax Refund program specifies the amounts: $250 for singles, $375 for heads of household, and $500 for couples filing jointly. Partial residents receive proportional payments based on their income in the state.
To gain access, taxpayers must have submitted their 2023 and 2024 returns by May 1, 2025. Payments are processed within 6 to 8 weeks of filing. As of April 23, individuals who met the requirement have either received or were on their way to receiving the funds.
Colorado: “TABOR” Refunds
Under the TABOR amendment, Colorado returns tax surpluses to taxpayers. The 2024 rebate amounts, as listed on Colorado TABOR Refunds, range from $177 to $1,130, based on adjusted income and filing status. Those who submitted their returns before April 15, 2025, have already received their payments.
Those who requested an extension until October 15, 2025 will receive their refund later. The process is automatic for individuals who checked the corresponding option on their tax return.
Michigan Tax Credit for Working Families
Michigan provides a credit equal to 30% of the federal EITC, which averages $836 per beneficiary. The Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit’s major criterion is to fulfil federal requirements for moderate income and employment activity in 2024.
The procedure is followed when filing the 2024 state taxes. others who filed before April 15, 2025, have already received the benefit, while others who used the extension until October can do so later.
New Jersey’s “Anchor” Stimulus Payment Program
New Jersey’s ANCHOR program gives up to $1,750 to homeowners and $1,100 to renters, depending on income. Applications are open from March 2025 and expire on October 31. Payments will be made starting September 15, according to the New Jersey ANCHOR Program.
As of April 2025, the application process is still ongoing, albeit monies will not be released until the end of the year. Applicants must complete form PAS-1, which is mailed in early March.
New York: Inflationary Refund Checks
A plan proposed in December 2024 proposes payouts of $300 to people and $500 to couples, subject to income constraints. If the state budget is approved, cash from the Inflation Rebate Check Proposal will be delivered in the autumn of 2025.
As of April 23, 2025, there was no official confirmation of approval. It is suggested that you check with your state’s Department of Taxation for updates.
Other States with Similar Programs
California continues the Sacramento Family First program, which gives $725 monthly payments to 200 homes until November 2025.
Virginia is contemplating state rebates ranging from $200 to $400, but there is no legislative consensus as of press time. In Pennsylvania, the deadline to request tax refunds was December 31, 2024.
Each state develops its own standards, thus it is best to consult the official government portals for detailed information.
